2020 Read Holland Wiley Vineyard Riesling, Anderson Valley, California (750ml)

About the Icons
Dry but not austere, this Riesling is one of our favorite California examples of late. Unfortunately there is very little of it to go around . . .

As Read Holland tells it ~ Wiley vineyard was planted by Brad Wiley in the 1970s. Our Riesling block was planted in 1976, with each couple of end vines planted to Muscat. The aromas that first come out of the glass are cheerful and energetic. White peaches, kiwi, pineapple guava, and fresh ginger spice present themselves on the nose, followed by an extremely concentrated palate that only old vines can bring. Mineral and citrus peel driven with juicy acidity on the finish make this wine ultimately refreshing.  Riesling & Muscat (~8%) co-fermented. Neutral puncheons and a stainless steel barrel for 6 months, stirred. Many varietals grow well in Alexander Valley with exceptional varietal character showcasing the unique stamp that only AV can impart, truly cool and coastal. Some of the earliest plantings in Anderson Valley were Riesling. Today AV has only 25 acres of Riesling across 7 producing vineyards. We love Riesling because it is a true barometer of the climate and soil the grapes are grown in. Encompassing a kaleidoscope of flavors based on the wine’s origin and the style the wine is made in. Think of Riesling as the swiss army knife of wine, it works with most things.
