2017 Freeman Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California (750ml)

Freeman provides a lot of information on their wines, so we hand the podium to them: At first sip, the 2017 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir tastes similar to our Gloria Estate Pinot Noir. It has all of the deep berry aromas of the Gloria, but as it aerates in the glass, a cooler, spicier aspect of the nose emerges. On the palate, it’s perfectly balanced between fruit, acidity and ripe tannins, while the black cherry flavors go on and on into the finish.

About the Icons

Nue Wilde was launched in 2018 by Ben Herod. Ben was born and raised in Northern California, his father an artist and carpenter, mother a nurse. He first learned to create by watching his dad produce large scale paintings, build houses, and make art. His attention to detail and curiosity to learn he attributes to his mother. At age 19, a 3-month backpacking trip around Europe exposed him to the world of wine. While drinking Champagne in Marseilles on Bastille Day, fireworks and French music filling La Rue de la Republique, the fuse was lit.

About the Icons
A Red Cellar Trio Quarterly Wine Club Selection
Hourglass is two vineyards, a winery and a compilation of estate wines: a vision unfolding...  Jeff Smith founded Hourglass in 1997 from his family’s 4-acre parcel located just north of St. Helena, where Napa Valley forms its narrowest point, the “pinch” of the Hourglass. The storied Cabernet Sauvignon produced from this vineyard started the journey that continues to unfold today. The magic of this vineyard property would soon prove itself, as it debuted in a blind tasting alongside the recognized California Cabernet giants of the day and held its own in that rare company.

2018-C Domaine Maby Lirac La Fermade, Rhone, France (750ml)

About the Icons
A Monthly Wine Club Selection
The Mabys have been cultivating vines in the southern Rhône Valley village of Tavel since the early 19th century. Auguste Maby was the first in the family to focus entirely on producing wine from their 4.5 hectares of vines and would vinify them in the small cellar in the back of the family shoe shop. Auguste’s 15-year-old son, Armand, joined him in helping to make the wines in 1936 when the family moved to a new house with a bigger cellar. By 1945, Armand was able to purchase vineyard land of his own. Then in 1950, Armand bought a house where he built a more modern, traditional cellar. That same year marked the first vintage of Domaine Maby Tavel from the now 30-acre estate.
